MINIMUM ACCOMMODATION STANDARDS
The Homestay host / Nominated carer must provide a supportive family environment for students. The required minimum standards for student accommodation are:
- The home must be clean and comfortable and have appropriate furnishings suitable for student.
- Each student is to have their own room, bed, lamp, desk/chair, enclosed wardrobe and drawers. If it is a shared room there should be no more than 2 students per room (same sex) each of whom must have their own separate bed, lamp, desk/chair and enclosed wardrobe/drawers.
- Students are not to share rooms with host family members. Sharing arrangements will only be permitted if a request by the student’s parents has been approved by the Educational Provider and Auzzie Families.
- The bedroom assigned to the student is solely for their use only and should not be used/accessed by any other family member for reasons such as storage.
- Students should be provided with a key to the home or arrangements made so that the student can gain access at any time.
- There must be adequate lighting for study purposes.
- There must be heating in winter and some means of cooling in summer.
- There must be a lockable bathroom and the student allowed a reasonable time to shower (10 – 15 minutes).
- There must be access to the kitchen and laundry facilities.
- There must be access to shared living areas and reasonable internet access in the home.
- There must be no mixing genders of students, unless approval has been given by Auzzie Families.
- A permanent room must be allocated for the sole use of the student. The room must be within the main residence and the homestay hosts must reside at this address. It is not permitted to place any student aged under 18 years in a granny flat or a converted garage separate from the main residence.
- The host must not operate any other form of accommodation business such as AirBNB, Boarding House and/or Vacation Rental etc. from the homestay address.
- Twin share room arrangements are for a maximum of two students, apply only to students of the same gender and each student has a separate bed. All share room arrangements will require pre-approval from Auzzie Families and the student’s parents.
- Students are not to share rooms with host family members. Sharing arrangements will only be permitted if a request by the student’s parents has been approved by the Educational Provider and Auzzie Families.
- The maximum number of students permitted to live in the homestay is three (3), regardless of their age, nationality, learning institution or the duration of the stay. It is a serious breach to exceed this limit.
